The Texas Comptroller, Glenn Hegar, issued a statement recently regarding a complaint that filed by Constable Ted Heap of Harris County Precinct 5. In the complaint, the Constable claims that the annual budget of his office was decreased by ~$2.4 million without voter approval and requested the Comptroller's Office look into the matter. After an investigation, the Comptroller believes the Precinct 5 Constable's budget was reduced unlawfully.
"Lawmakers and state leadership in Texas are committed to preventing the disastrous policies that have led to the mass exodus of businesses and families from crime-ridden, liberal cities.... After careful review, I found that the complaint provides evidence of a reduction of funding for a law enforcement agency..." - Glenn Hegar in an official statement.
As a result of the Comptroller's investigation, "Harris County may not adopt an ad valorem tax rate that exceeds the county's no-new-revenue tax rate..."
Harris County Commissioner Lina Hidalgo responded in a tweet by saying "Glenn Hegar and his allies seem to be struggling with basic accounting." The commissioner from Precinct 1 is most well known for her voracious advocacy of covid lockdowns
and a corruption scandal involving several of her staffers in which an $11 million contract was awarded to Elevate Strategies for "covid outreach".
